DOLL QUILTS

Of course dolls needed to keep warm during New England's cold winters! These two quilts were made in the early 1900s for May Tuthill who lived in the small farming and fishing village of Orient - at the far eastern tip of Long Island. they were made by her great-grandmother Maria (Fournier) Sawyer who also made (and signed) a full-size quilt for May.

May remembers her great-grandmother sitting sewing, knitting and crocheting in front of the living room bay window. She did wonderful handwork and taught May how to sew.
