SOCK MONKEYS

Sock monkeys became popular in the 1930s when the Nelson Knitting Company of Rockford, Illinois, added a line of socks with red heels. When American mothers and grandmothers began making stuffed monkeys out of worn-out socks, the company began including a sock-monkey pattern with every pair of socks.
